Paddy Malone, PRO, Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, meets 5 Economics class

Paddy Malone, PRO, Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, visited DGS to meet 5 Economics class on Tuesday Feb 6. Paddy is a frequent visitor to the school, and he gave a broad talk to the students about the past and present economy of Dundalk. Being Paddy, he fitted in many other issues, including his family involvement with Dundalk Football Club. Always interesting to listen to, the students enjoyed his presentation, and also put some questions to him.
 
Preceding his visit, Arran and Nessa visited Paddy in his office as part of their primary research into the local economy. Both students are working together on their economics project comparing the economies of Dundalk and Newry. 26 students are working on 17 separate economics projects as part of the Young Economist of the Year (YEOTY) competition 2024. 3 projects will be selected as the school entries to be submitted on March 1 for this competition.
 
Previous school entries for this competition were awarded gold medals, qualifying them for the national finals. In 2022, Isabelle Janssen. In 2023, Fikewa Akeredolu and Marlene Ofterdinger, Jake Fahy and Corentin Blanchet.
