Tony O’Brien Visit

5th Year Politics and Economics students were privileged on Tuesday to host a visit from Tony O’Brien, Former Head of the HSE.

In a 75 minute Questions & Answers Session, he spoke about his role as head of an organisation employing 140,000 people, the issues facing the health service, and the way forward to improve the service.

He spoke about how Government and politics interact with the provision of services by the HSE, and the role and influence of the media in reporting on the health service.

The students found the session very informative and interesting.

The insight into how politics and economics interact in the provision of state services was very interesting and informative.

This was one visit that left its mark on the students.
