DGS Debating Update January 2017

Leinster Schools’ Debating

Congratulations and best wishes are due to  fifth year student Abigail Boylan who will represent DGS in the quarter final of the Leinster Schools’ debating competition tonight, Tuesday January 24th, in Trinity College Dublin.

Abigail will be opposing the motion, This House Would hold the creators of artificial intelligences legally responsible for the actions of their creations. Quarter Final level sees speeches ramped up to seven minutes in length. It’s a big ask but Abigail brings the confidence and experience of being a previous semi-finalist in the competition we wish her the very best.

Matheson Junior Debating National Mace

Congratulations are also due to four of our junior debaters who have qualified for the Leinster Final of the Matheson Junior Debating National Mace competition.

Second year students Kate O’Brien, Vishva Nagappan, Síofra O’Reilly and George Green have all amassed enough points at the qualifying stages of the competition to see them through to the final which takes place in St Conleth’s, Ballsbridge, on March 4th.

The four qualified in the top eighty from a pool of well over three hundred initial competitors. ‘Well done’ to all on their efforts and successes throughout the year so far!
