TY Politics class visit LCCO

Students of 4 Blue TY Politics class visit Louth County Council Offices in Dundalk on Monday September 26th.

The students were invited to sit in the Council Chamber. They were given presentations by members of the Louth County Council Executive, and by one of the elected Councillors, John McGahon. Following the presentations, the students were invited to ask questions. Afterwards, they were treated to refreshments.

4 Blue is the first TY class to take the new Politics module, which has been introduced this year to the TY Programme. The aim of the module is to get the students interested in political debate and discussion. Students are encouraged to give their own views on a range of issues, and to listen to the views of others. In becoming more informed, they can become more active citizens in their communities. An important legacy of the module will be for each student to recognise the importance of his/her opinion, that their voice matters, and that when the time comes, each student will exercise his/her right to vote.
