President visits Junior School

Our photograph depicts President Mary McAleese on a recent visit to Dundalk Grammar School’s new primary school facility. This purpose-built junior school in the grounds of the Secondary School was opened in September 2010 by Leo Enright and relieves pressure on space on the secondary campus.

Ms Elaine Lait, Principal of the Primary School, commented “This school is a dream with its new class rooms and all the very latest electronic teaching aids. It serves as an important feeder school for the adjacent secondary school. It benefits from this proximity too in that not only can our happy band of primary school students make use of the sports facilities of the bigger school such as the Astroturf pitches, but also can utilise the expertise of a number of the secondary school teachers to give classes in languages and science which we believe is very important in these times when education is more important than ever. Of course, when it comes to the sometimes difficult time of moving on to secondary school our students don’t even have to cross a road!”
