Achill Island Trip September 2013

26 pupils from 3rd year and 3 teachers spent a very enjoyable weekend in a Gaeltacht area on Achill Island.   Pupils spent 2 nights with the local bean an tí and were encouraged to use as much Irish as they could throughout the weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday, pupils participated in outdoor pursuits activities being offered by Coláiste Acla through the Irish language.  The emphasis was on water activities on Saturday with surfing on Keel beach in the morning and coasteering (a sport that mostly consists of cliff jumping) in an idyllic cove in the afternoon.  Both activities were enjoyable and extremely challenging.

In the evening there was a short céile and a movie. But most fun was had on Sunday morning with a 2 hour session of “Craic sa Phortach” which translates as “fun in the Bog”.
