On Thursday 24th November three 2nd Year students represented Dundalk Grammar School in the first round of the Gael-Linn Irish language debating competition. Aideen Fay (capt.), Aoibheann Ní Éalaí and Oisín Duff travelled to St Clare’s College in Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan, along with their teacher, Ms Tina Nic Enrí.
The motion for the debate was: “Is miotas é cairdiúlacht na hÉireann!” (“Irish friendliness is a myth!”). The DGS team argued against the motion. The students delivered their speeches with great gusto and aplomb. They defeated the home team, St Clare’s College, and along with Coláiste Bhaile na hInse Bettystown, they were selected to go through to the second round.
This victory was a marvellous achievement for Aideen, Aoibheann and Oisín as it was their first time debating competitively in Irish!
Comhghairdeas leo!
