It is with great sadness we announce the death of our dear friend and former colleague, Valerie Meagher, who died peacefully in her sleep on Friday 30th December.
Removal from Naas to St Brigid’s Church, Kill will take place on Monday evening (2nd January, 2017), and the funeral mass on Tuesday morning. Further details are available on the rip.iewebsite.
Valerie’s teaching career at Dundalk Grammar School began in 1981, and her main subjects were History and Mathematics. She was Head of Boarding for very many years, and for five years prior to her retirement she was Deputy Principal. In addition Valerie was very much involved with tennis, the production of school musicals, history and skiing trips, school management, and, shortly before retirement, the school building programme. When she retired in 2015, her total of 34 years’ service to the school was one of the longest since the re-establishment of the school in 1921.
Valerie will be fondly remembered by all for her life-long contribution to so many aspects of school life, and the spirit and wisdom she so generously shared with pupils and colleagues alike. Her strong work ethic, moral authority and sense of justice were universally respected.
We all mourn Valerie’s untimely passing, remember her in our prayers, and pray also that her family and friends can take some comfort at this sad time from the very deep love and respect with which she was held in Dundalk Grammar School, and from the large number of lives she touched there over many years.
If any students are attending the funeral with their family it would be much appreciated that they wear full school uniform.
