On the 13th Oct this year for the first time the MegaDoJo (see megadojo.ie) is coming to Dundalk Institute of Technology.
This voluntary event has a target of getting 512, 7 to 17 year olds engaging with computer coding and technology from 10am to 4pm in DkIT. The event is also being held in other Institutes of Technology across the country at the same time – the national target is 5000 children coding!!.
The event consists of coding workshops, local technology companies / organisations exhibiting / demo’ing their technology and a number of guest speakers.
As you can imagine this is going to be a great honour for our local CoderDoJo and we would appreciate all the help we can get. We will need mentors and helpers on the day. Also we need to spread the word to as many new potential ninja’s as possible so tell your teachers, employers and friends.
Anyone who has a contact with a local IT company or a company that uses technology might consider approaching them to see if they would like to put up an exhibit on the day. Get them to contact me directly. The idea is to encourage youths to get involved in STEM related industries but in a friendly fun way.
We are lining up an impressive group of speakers for the 12 noon to 2PM sessions and hope to have a very interesting set of to do activities on the day.
