Grow Your Own Project

The TY girls (Carolyn, Ayiesha, Louise, Aoibheanna) and Sarah have done great work since last February getting the beds ready for planting and sowing all the veg.

They planted Sarpo Mira potatoes (blight resistant) and red onions in one bed and carrots, lettuce, a few leeks, rocket, red kale, beetroot, coriander and 3 different squash plants with a yellow courgette in the other bed. They also sowed some flowers in with the squashes to attract pollinators to the area.

They plan to harvest all the veg in September/October and enjoy the taste of their organic produce.

Their mentor, Roisin Cotter, said “The girls have been a pleasure to work with”.

It would be great to get a bigger group of students to sign up for the project this year.
