09 Mar Prize Day 2014
Dundalk Grammar School held its 2014 Prize Day in its Finnamore Hall. The school was delighted to welcome the Most Reverend Pat (Patricia) Storey, Bishop of Meath and Kildare as guest speaker for the occasion. The date, 19th September, was exactly one year on from the day when the Reverend Storey received the telephone call inviting her to take up the position as the first female bishop in Ireland. Reflecting back on her first year in office, Bishop Storey said that while her new role had brought new challanges everyday, it had been “a blast”.
In an inspirational speech the Rev Storey stressed the importance of three things to the audience of Dundalk Grammar School students, namely:
- having a wiilingness to listen and learn;
- being resilient in the face of difficulty; and
- having determination: “be determined to be someone”.
And, while she shared with the students her belief that these three factors had all contributed to her life’s journey, Rev Storey concluded by saying “these three things would be nothing without my Saviour”.
The prizes presented on the day saw students rewarded for excellence across the whole spectrum of school life. This included academic prowess, community service, application and progress, sports and musical achievements. The ceremony was followed by refreshments in the school’s dining hall in the Harper Building.
